Description:
This journey of central China tells the story on the forming of Chinese civilization. We will start the journey from China’s modern capital - Beijing, which had also been China’s imperial capital since the Yuan Dynasty in 1264. Gradually we make our way through the provinces of Shanxi and Shaanxi over a period of 11 days. On this journey, we will come across some of the earliest sites of human civilization in China which are strongly linked to the course of the Yellow River. A large part of the trip takes you through the territory of yellow loess plains which is a distinctive landscape formed by the silt carried along by the Yellow River, by which you will also witness the unfold of Chinese history. If you are familiar with classic contemporary Chinese films such as “Yellow Earth”, and “Raise the Red Lantern”, such majestic scenery should not be alien to you. You will witness extraordinary cities and relics which date back to thousands of years, along with the distinctive folk customs and cultures of central China.
Note:
This journey has a long and short version due to travel conditions in different seasons. The long version lasts 11 days and includes a stop at Mt. Wutai Shan which is run during the warmer months of April to October. The shorter version runs throughout the colder months between November and March, skipping Mt. Wutai Shan due to the unpredictable road conditions.
