Trip Introduction:
The landscape of SE Guizhou is characterized by lush mountains crisscrossed by free-flowing rivers. Most of Guizhou’s hill tribes dwell in the high mountains in the southeast that stretches from Kaili up to the border of northern Guangxi. Due to its isolated location within the hills, many of the tribal villages are still able to retain their unique cultures and traditions. On top of the spring festival, they also celebrate many other festivals that are unique to their own cultures with great fanfare. One thing standard among these celebrations are that that there will not be short of singing, dancing, and showing-off of their most elaborate and colorful costumes. We will encounter mostly Miao and Dong tribal groups on this journey. Even within the same ethnic groups, you will discover that they differ from each other somewhat in terms of dress, dialect, and customs. It is certain that the journey will leave you with much new insight into the lives of China’s different ethnic groups.
