Trip Introduction:
Also known as Losar, the Tibetan New Year is celebrated each year in a grand scale at the different monasteries all over Tibet and within the Tibetan regions in China. Gannan in southwestern Gansu is a very distinctive Tibetan region outside of Tibet. Characterized by lush grasslands, and picturesque mountains valleys, Gannan used to be a part of Tibet’s Amdo province. Today, with over 50% of the region’s population being Tibetan, its Tibetan traditions remain strong and vibrant. The Labrang Monastery in Xiahe still holds its authority as one of the most important Tibetan Buddhist monasteries outside of Lhasa, and hundreds and thousands of pilgrims come to pray, and participate in the festival celebrations each year. This trip is a rare opportunity to witness one of the largest celebrative events in the Tibetan culture, and the experience will be sure to leave an ever-lasting impression!
