Trip Introduction:
The annual Shangri-La Horse Racing Festival is one of the most important folk festivals for celebrating the Tibetan cultural heritage in SW China. This horse racing festival is not just a sporting competition showcasing horsemanship, but it also serves as an event of different folk activities not short of singing and dancing by the locals. It is held normally around the Dragon Boat Festival in the lunar calendar, usually lasting 3 days at the Mt. Wufeng Horse Racing field. People of many ethnic backgrounds from far and near would gather in their most elaborate costumes to sing and dance almost non-stop for 3 days and 3 nights! Along with this exciting event, we’ll do a 3 day trek on the Tiger Leaping Gorge trail to witness the stunning scenery of the Upper Yangtze.
*You may consider extending this trip to include a few days in Lijiang and/or Dali to complete your experience in Northwest Yunnan. Please contact me separately for extensions of this trip before or after the normal program.
