Description
Located 135 KM northeast of Inner Mongolia’s provincial capital Hohhot, is the vast and lush Huitengxile grasslands. It is the shining jewel among the various grasslands nearby Hohhot for its unique highland landscape, untouched nature, and great hospitality of local hosting Mongolians. Huitenxile translates into “the cold steppes”, at one point it was the summer resort for the royal descendants of Genghis Khan during their rule of the middle kingdom in the Yuan dynasty. It is the highest among the grasslands around Hohhot at over 1000 meters, and the total area of the grasslands is around 50 KM2. It is said that there exactly 99 lakes of different sizes within the grasslands. The highlight of this trip will be the 3 hour trek to Huanghua Valley (Valley of Yellow Flowers), a valley deep inside the grasslands where you will traverse through steep hills. The valley is beautifully decorated with strangely shaped big rocks, and different kinds of flowers bloom starting from spring throughout summer. Due to its vast distance from Hohhot comparing to the other grasslands, Huitengxile is a less popular destination for mass tour groups, and our “yurt camp” is located away from the other “yurt camps” for regular tour groups. Therefore, those who come on this trip will enjoy a more peaceful environment, and a more intimate cultural experience with the local Mongolian hosts. On the same trip, you will also visit the beautiful and fun-filled Resonate Sand Dunes in the Kubuqi Desert, and also the fascinating multi-functional Mei Dai Zhao Fort.
