Description
Very little known to conventional tourists, the Hui Hang Caravan Trail is ranked as one of the top ten trekking routes in China, famous among Chinese outdoor enthusiasts. As the name suggests, Hui Hang Caravan Trail was the ancient trade route linking Anhui province with Zhejiang. The trail was once used to transport tea from Anhui in exchange for grains in Zhejiang. Thanks to the trail, local merchants can save at least 50 km of traveling. The trail crosses a landscape of beautiful mountains, bamboo forests, ancient villages, and colorful fields. One of the most well preserve sections of the trail still consists of the cobble stone path which was paved for the ancient traders. For this trip, you will depart from Shanghai on an overnight train, and you may chose to return on the next evening from Hangzhou to Shanghai or extend your trip to the Yellow Mountain. This trek is suitable for undertaking in all seasons. Without too many steep slopes, it is also a moderate course for beginner level hikers. This is certainly a great chance to witness the true rural beauty of Eastern China off the beaten tourist trail for the discerning traveler.
