Description

This trip featuring the Xin’an River and Thousand Island Lake will put you in a picture-perfect scene of rural eastern China amidst farm fields, fruite orchards, gentle-flowing waters, and idyllic villages. The Xin’an River is one of the major rivers in Eastern China. With the total length of 373 KM, it originates from Huang Shan in Anhui, and flows into the Qiantang River in Hangzhou via Thousand Island Lake and Fuchun River. Our hike starts from the upper reaches of the river near Huangshan, and we’ll follow the river down stream along its banks, taking in the scenery along the way. Many of these villages are at least hundreds of years old, boasting the rich Hui culture. We’ll have a few chances to crisscross the river on local ferries. The hike on the first day will be fairly relaxed on leveled grounds. The highlight of the second day will be the five hour boat ride on a passenger ferry from the town of Shen Du to Chun An City of the Thousand Island Lake district. The ferry will make stops at different villages where locals will get on and off. The river then merges into the Thousand Island Lake - a giant reservoir that was formed by the construction of the Xin’an River Hydro Power Station in 1959. Today it has become a top scenic spot in China for its sublime natural scenery. On the last day, we’ll spend a night inside the Jiu Pao Jie Scenic area to fully appreciate the beautiful surroundings of the Thousand Island area. On the last day, we’ll take the express bus from Chun An back to Shanghai.

*Note: A bus will be following us during the entire hike to transfer our luggage and large bags, you would only need to carry a daypack while hiking.
