Trip Introduction

Despite the fact that Guizhou strives to serve as a transportation hub for the China's Southwestern provinces, the province is seldom on the itineraries of foreign travlers in China. Those who make it out there are rewarded by the raw beauty of nature, beautiful landscape decorated by unique tradtional architectures, and the friendly hospitality of the different minority groups. The area from Kaili in SE Guizhou to Long Sheng in Northern Guangxi is full of hidden wonders, and it is sure to be an absolute delight to travelers with a great sense of adventure.

The trip starts in Guiyang, taking you first to visit the Huangguoshu Waterfalls, the largest waterfall in China. The different ethnic groups are characterized by their costumes, lively festivals, traditions, as well as food and architecture. In Guizhou you will find that even among the Miao have very different dress, customs, and languages. Kaili is the entry point into the different tribal villages that have been isolated for centuries before the opening of roads that lead access to their hill-side dwellings. On the way, we'll visit the tribal settlements of Langde, Ma Tang, Xijiang, Basha, Gaosheng, Zhaoxing, Cheng Yang, Dazhai and Ping'an before we reach Yangshuo, where endless options are available for recreation and exploring on your own comfortably.
